I see it a lot on these older externals after prolonged storage.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if the SATA / USB board in the enclosure crapped out.

eSata a possibility to recover or go professional way? TL DR: Did not use hard drive for a while, it went to shit and is now possibly corrupt and continually disconnecting and reconnecting. if so any recommendation someone good in the financial district or lower manhattan would be greatly appreciated.Īpologies for the wall of text, just trying to outline my process. Would that be a possibility to recover the data so it would be worth a try to spend the 30 bucks or so on the eSata to usb cable, find a powercable for it and try that or would it be better to just take it to some recovery specialists. Now, there is a eSata port and a power port on the drive. thinking that it might be a problem with the cable i bought a new mini usb cable to test if it was the old that was just old and malfunctioning, nothing changed and it is still almost cycling the power on and off, being on for about 15-20 sec and then off for 5 sec approximately. However the drive continually disconnected and reconnected, making the recovery process impossible. Now suspecting that it might be completely corrupt i opened Disk Drill to see if there was some of the data that was retrievable, and it located around 390gb of the data which was good. I found the drive in the disc utility but the icon was not solid so i tried to run the first-aid to no avail.

Now, i had not used it for a while and i recently purchased a new 2Tb drive to replace it when i plugged it in to copy the content over to the new one it did not show in finder and the activity light started solid then started flickering and eventually faded out. Nothing incredibly important but some pictures and stuff like that, around 450Gbs worth if i remember correctly. I used it mainly for storing movies and series and plug it in to my tv via USB, But i also had some backups on it. Hi, i have an old Apacer ac601 500gb external hard drive that i've had for a good amount of years.
